The Golden Barrel Cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) is an attractive, rounded succulent with long dangerous spines! It can grow to be 3 feet tall and 3 feet around– like a barrel, hence the name. This plant is native to central Mexico and can produce a large yellow flower, or rarely, even an edible fruit! A must-have for cacti lovers!
This cactus should be kept in the warmest room of your home in a bright sunny location. This plant can also thrive outdoors in the summer, but direct sunlight may burn the plant. Settle for a sunny spot that also gets part shade during the day. Barrel cacti are native to arid desert regions and usually only have rainfall to supply their moisture needs. Water your barrel cactus once per week in the summer, and once per month in the winter when they're dormant.
