The Venus Fly Trap is a carnivorous plant known for catching and digesting insects. It is actually native to our neighbors, North and South Carolina, where it is common in damp mossy areas. Their circular foliage with spiny teeth can fold and enclose insects for nutrients. About 10 days is required for digestion, after which the leaf opens up. The trap dies after capturing 3-4 insects.
To keep this plant happy indoors, place it in bright, indirect sunlight. You want this plant to stay moist at all times. Place it in a shallow bowl of rocks and fill with water every 2-3 days. This will give the plant extra humidity and the ability to suck up as much water as it needs!
